Alcohol and Breastfeeding yea or nea?

Have you wondered if you can have a cocktail or two while you are breastfeeding.  The short answer is yes but it must be done with care and time.  Mothers who consume alcohol should wait for their bodies to metabolize and eliminate the alcohol before they return to breastfeeding.  Alcohol transfers into milk as the blood alcohol level rises, and then exits the milk compartment as the level in the blood goes down.  Waiting a few hours results in the alcohol level in the milk to be significantly reduced.  Moms body weight plays a huge part in how fast or slow she metabolizes the alcohol in her system.
