Philosophy:

Your baby's birth will be one of the most significant events in your life. It should be sacred, joyful and deeply personal. Working with a doula can help you to create a meaningful, satisfying, and safe birth.

My name is Beth Scott Stenglein. I have been a birth doula since April 2002. I have a masters degree in social work and am currently in the process of completing a masters in public health, with a focus on maternal and child health.

I believe pregnancy and birth are special times for you and your family. Every woman has her own unique and personal needs in terms of labor support, so I adapt my services to meet your needs. My goal is to help you trust your instincts and "inner voice," feel safe, and have the birth experience you want. I am present as a constant witness during your labor, offering reassurance, guidance, and support. If you have a partner and/or other support persons, I complement, but do not replace, their important role.

I meet with you and your support person(s) several times before labor to learn about your specific needs and preferences, help practice breathing and comfort techniques, and meet your care provider. I am with you continuously from the beginning of labor until your baby is born. After birth we meet at least once more to discuss your birth.

I also offer Belly Casting (plaster casts of your pregnant belly) as a beautiful keepsake.

I enjoy working with families from diverse backgrounds and life situations, including expectant teens, lesbian families, and polyamorous families.

I gave birth to my daughter Edie in March of 2007. Currently I am not accepting new clients - only families I have worked with in the past who are expecting another child.
